This book is based on the diaries of Leningraders stored in the archives, invaluable evidence of the struggle against hunger, cold, barbaric shelling and bombing. Diary entries 1941–1944 supplemented by documents and newspaper publications of that “mortal time”, allowing the reader to see everyday life, or rather the survival of the besieged city from the inside, learn the joys and sorrows of its inhabitants, understand how they managed to defend Leningrad.
