The book provides a comprehensive analysis of the work of Albert Camus (1913–1960), an outstanding writer, philosopher, and publicist—the “master of thought” of the Western intelligentsia of the mid-20th century (Nobel Prize 1957). Velikovsky examines Camus' legacy in its entirety, tracing how the thinker's ideas are embodied in the artist's work and how Camus the writer expresses himself in philosophical works and political journalism. The advantage of the book is the establishment of interaction between the search for ideological and moral support in works of art (“The Outsider”, “Plague”, “The Fall”, etc.) and the actual philosophical mindset of existentialism (“The Myth of Sisyphus”, “The Rebel Man”, etc.) . Velikovsky does not simplify the problems raised by Camus, but, on the contrary, emphasizes their significance, which has by no means lost its relevance in our time.
