Written on the eve of the war, this novel is one of the most personal and romantic in the work of Nayo Marsh. It is also to some extent historical - the spirit of the Regency times is so expressed in it. One of the main characters, along with Inspector Roderick Alleyn, turns out to be Bunchy, Lord Robert Gospell, who embodies the positive qualities of a “man of the past”. As the novel progresses, Alleyn drops a hint that Bunchy has helped Scotland Yard before. This gave the public the opportunity to express a desire to read about their other joint adventures, but, unlike many of her fellow writers, Miss Marsh did not consider it necessary to take advantage of the popularity of her character and force a couple of novels with his participation.

The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
