Fyodor Cherenkov was rightly called “the people’s footballer.” Everyone loved him - and not only the fans of Spartak, the club to which he gave his whole life and for which he played a record number of matches, but also the army team, Dynamo, fans from other cities and republics of the then united Soviet Union. And when he passed away in 2014 - at the age of only fifty-five! — more than 15 thousand people came to say goodbye to him at the Spartak arena in Sokolniki. In the entire history of Russian football, so many people have buried only two people: him and Eduard Streltsov. People affectionately called them two, the most beloved ones, by their names: Edik and Fedya. And there was no need to explain who we were talking about.
