This story was published anonymously in 1964, with the indication that it was written by the author of “The Old Man and the Boy.” As in the first book, François Augieras tells the story of his relationship with his uncle, Colonel Marcel Augieras, who was his mentor, tormentor and lover. But this time it was moved from the African oasis to Périgord, where François Augieras spent many years. In this mystical land, which has preserved the memory of the Templars, the heroes of the story meet: a sadistic priest, a young narrator who is in his power, and a 13-year-old village boy.
The Templars left their mark in these parts. The crows were gliding onto rocky cliffs, riddled with holes and gaps; unusual charms emanated from the huge hills overgrown with bushes and young chestnuts. I guessed true secrets, true pleasure. Everywhere there was a desperate adherence to the scandalous belief that Man was created to be with Man, and not with Woman, that Woman is the Enemy.
