Ladislav Klima (1878–1928) is an ecstatic thinker and artist of words, despising almost everything that was customary to value in his time: academic education, positivism, the left avant-garde. His writings are a mockery of the poetics of his peer Karel Capek and the underside of the narrative style of Jaroslav Hasek. His dark, paradoxical sense of humor, his Central European Nietzscheanism and sensitivity to the painful and absurd depths of existence captured the imagination not only of representatives of the Czech underground of the late 20th century, but also of all attentive readers who appreciate the creativity of the hermit, personifying one of the most extraordinary versions of European decadence and modernism. Tomasz Glanc

Ladislav Klima is the embodiment of absolute rebellion with all its extreme consequences. Having proclaimed the world the embodiment of his will, Klima concluded: a world created in this way cannot be taken seriously. Milan Uhde
