Osip Mandelstam's prose is polyphonic, does not fit within the framework of genres, and is rich in poetic thought - a significant phenomenon in Russian literature. According to Nadezhda Mandelstam, the poet’s prose “complements and sheds light on the poems.” Included in the second volume of the complete collected works and letters, O. E. Mandelstam’s prose is presented in five sections. The first one includes articles on issues of poetry, history and culture that are significant for the poet. The theme continues with “Conversation about Dante”, which is not only a vivid and deep reading of the “Divine Comedy”, but also an inspired reflection on poetics. The “Prose” section consists of well-known narrative works, mainly of an autobiographical nature - “The Noise of Time”, “Feodosia”, “Egyptian Stamp”, “Journey to Armenia”. Then follows the confessional and prophetic “Fourth Prose,” about which Akhmatova wrote that “... in the entire 20th century there was no such prose.” The volume is complemented by other editions, drafts and notebooks, as well as extensive commentaries.
