Francisco Umbral (1935–2007) is one of Spain's greatest contemporary writers. Fame came to him in the second half of the sixties of the last century. He was the laureate of many international and national awards, and at the turn of the millennium he received the most prestigious literary prize for writers in Spanish - the Cervantes. And, nevertheless, it was translated into Russian for the first time. “Pawn on Sunday” is a “black” urban novel about a lonely “little” man, lost in the “empty” (worthless) time of his unfulfilled (fulfilled?) life.
