The theme of this novel is going beyond the lined world. A man follows an unfamiliar girl, and from that moment his behavior becomes inexplicable to a sober look from the outside. He follows the girl around the city, realizing that by this alone he is committing a “crime against the individual.” “Even if the woman did not notice the persecution, it remained reprehensible, intrusive, Philip had to let her know about himself as soon as possible.” In the heat of persecution, he does not take his child from the home-based nanny, he travels on the train without a ticket and gets caught by the controller, he is ready to punch the controller in the face, but jumps out of the car while moving, losing his shoe. He commits one “crime” after another, going wild before our eyes and losing the appearance of a decent European, simply because he fell under the elemental power of love, which no longer had a place in his ordered world. But who wants to know anything reliably about the world? he must enter the door uninvited. How does love invade our lives and make our actions inexplicable? Is it even possible to confidently foresee anything, much less plan? How much can we trust our sense perceptions? These questions shed light on our living reality in the 21st century.
