The Phoenicians called themselves Canaanites, and their country - Canaan, under the same name it is mentioned in the Old Testament. Phenicia never gained political unity; its history is the history of individual cities: Byblos, Sidon, Berith, Tire, Arvada; as well as colonies in North Africa, Spain, and the islands of the Mediterranean Sea, including Carthage. At the same time, a common language, many discoveries in the field of culture, and highly developed art indicate that we are facing one of the most interesting civilizations of antiquity. And, perhaps, one of the most little-studied. This book is the first attempt in Russian historical science to create a consistent history of Phenicia.
