The work of Georg Heim (1887-1912) opens up special possibilities in German poetry. In expressionism, which gravitated towards abstraction (“It is not a falling stone, but the law of gravity - this is how one of its main aesthetic principles was later defined”), Geim’s poetry emphasizes the primacy of objectivity. The poet unfolds the picture behind the picture. His voice is not heard. Life is no longer perceived directly - it appears as a subject of interpretation, difficult reflection of the artist. His poems provided an impressive version of those new relationships between subject and object, the lyrical Self and the world, which were resolved in their own way not only by the greatest expressionist poets, but - and in many versions - by all world poetry of the 20th century. The work of Georg Heim is presented in this book three poetic collections covering most of his poetic heritage: “Eternal Day” (based on the text of his lifetime publication), “Umbra vitae” and “Heavenly Tragedy”.
