With Evgeniy Grishkovets (b. 1967), a new drama begins, despite the fact that he sharply separates himself from this movement. But it was his one-man performances, primarily How I Ate the Dog, that created a new aesthetic convention - a new type of relationship between playwright and actor, between theater and audience, between author and language. In other words, a new intonation. The emphatically modest and unobtrusive intonation of direct communication with the audience, sounding in the monologues of Grishkovets, deprived of an actor’s pose and actor’s diction, in front of his eyes choosing words for what he is trying to express, turned out to be the sensation that brought him, the author, director and performer of his texts, professional recognition and fantastic mass success.
