Yuri Andropov is considered by some to be a great statesman and patriot, while others consider him an agent of hostile forces that would bring him to power to destroy the Soviet Union. The author of the book, Sergei Nikolaevich Semanov, was the editor-in-chief of the magazine “Man and the Law” in those years. This magazine published materials from investigations into high-profile cases of corruption in the highest echelons of government. In the end, Semanov was summoned to the KGB and was soon removed from his post as editor-in-chief. In his book, he shares his personal impressions of the work of “Andropov’s” state security, and also, based on documentary material, gives an assessment of the activities of Yu. V. Andropov as the head of this all-powerful organization.
