André-Jean Festugière (1898-1982) - famous French classical scholar, specialist in Greek religion, priest of the Dominican Order. He is the author of such books as “The Religious Ideal of the Greeks and the Gospel” (1932), “Socrates” (1934), “The Revelation of Hermes Trismegistus” (I-II, 1944-49), “Epicure and His Gods” (1946), translator and publisher of numerous works from antiquity.

'Personal Religion Among the Greeks' (Personal Religion Among the Greeks) was published for the first time in 1954, in English, in Berkeley and Los Angeles, as a result of his lecture course in local university. Republished in 1960. The author explores various aspects of the internal religious unity between man and deity, and traces the influence of religious ideas on the development of ancient spirituality.
