Michel Foucault's lecture “The Painting of Manet” was given in 1971 in Tunisia and was considered lost for a long time. This text, restored thanks to the efforts of researchers of his work, represents the only trace of an unwritten book about the famous French artist Edouard Manet. Foucault offers a masterful analysis of Manet's most famous paintings, using the "archaeological" research procedures that made him famous. Foucault's text is accompanied by a number of articles based on the materials of the November 2001 colloquium “Michel Foucault, Perspective.” This publication allows us to take a fresh look at both one of the most interesting periods in the work of Foucault and the art of E. Manet. The book is intended for philosophers, historians, art critics and anyone interested in the current state of aesthetic thought.
