Robert Bloch, author of classic stories in the genres of fantasy and horror, winner of the Hugo and the International Fantasy Award, is one of the creators of the thriller. The characteristic features of his writing are clear, devoid of pomposity, concise language, the use of “cinematic” techniques that create the desired atmosphere, a combination of features of the “scary” genre and the detective story, and an unexpected but completely logical ending. His works of various genres - “horror”, detective, fantastic - are considered an example of good plot development. In the fifties and sixties, the time of the triumphant march of psychoanalysis across America and increased interest in the dark side of human consciousness, Bloch managed to create a fashion for plots that became the basis for a psychopathological thriller. He mixed the techniques of the classic “horrorstory” and the crime genre, replacing infernal monsters with psychopathic maniacs and complicating the detective intrigue with atmospheric scenes in the spirit of “horror” novels. It was the successful use of such topics that brought him wide popularity. After Hitchcock’s famous film adaptation of his novel “Psycho” (“Psycho”, 1959), Bloch constantly worked in this genre (“Psycho-2”, 1982, “Night of the Ripper”, 1984). "Night-world" (1972) is one of the best examples of thriller. All the author’s efforts are aimed at ensuring that his books are read with unflagging interest, just like watching a fascinating film.
