The publication contains the text of travel notes of the Chernigov hieromonk Ippolit Vishensky, who committed at the beginning of the 18th century. walking to the Holy Land and describing the largest centers of the Orthodox world: Constantinople, Jerusalem and Palestine, Egypt and Sinai, Syria and Athos. The author follows the tradition of medieval pilgrimage literature, enriching it with innovations of Ukrainian baroque culture. In terms of the wealth of historical material and artistic expressiveness of the descriptions, this monument is among the best works of travel literature of Peter the Great's time. For comparison, the book contains “Walking” by Andrei Ignatiev, who, together with Ippolit Vishensky, traveled through Egypt and Sinai. A new edition of “Pelgrimation”, which is based on the only surviving list (RNB. Collection. M.P. Pogodin. No. 1544), caused by the inaccessibility and imperfection of the two previous publications, carried out in 1876 by Archimandrite Leonid (Kavelin) and in 1914 by S.P. Rozanov.
