Pujyapada’s “Sarvarthasiddhi” (5th–6th centuries) is the first commentary on Umasvati’s “Tattvarthadhigama-sutra” known within the Digambara branch of Jainism, the fundamental work of the entire Jain philosophical and religious tradition. In this commentary, polemicizing with the doctrines of other philosophical schools of India (Samkhya, Buddhism, Vaisheshika, etc.), Pujyapada defends the features of the Jain approach to solving a number of fundamental ontological problems (interpretation of the nature of the soul, the connection of the soul with karma, etc.), shows the depth of the teachings of their own tradition and the effectiveness of the application of Jain logic. The first translation of the work into Russian is accompanied by an introductory article and appendices. CONTENTS: Introduction 121. The formation of Jain doctrine before Pujyapada 132.
