Despite the fact that Bi Feiyu’s work is not yet very well known to the Russian reader, in his homeland the writer is considered one of the best modern prose writers. He has received many literary awards, including the most prestigious literary award in China - the Mao Dun Prize for his novel “Chinese Massage” (2011). The novel takes place in a massage parlor in Nanjing, where blind massage therapists work. Describing each of his fifteen heroes, talking about what it means for each of them to be blind, what they had to endure in their lifetime and how they live now, Bi Feiyu makes the reader empathize with his heroes from the beginning to the end of the story. For the novel “ Chinese Massage”, the writer was awarded the most prestigious literary award in China - the Mao Dun Prize (2011). The novel has been translated into English and French. The feature-length film based on it received the Silver Bear at the 64th Berlin Film Festival; in addition, “Chinese Massage” formed the basis of a popular film series in China.
