For the first time in Russian - a collection of stories by one of the most famous authors of modern China; author, translated into 20 languages, and winner of many international awards, including the Asian Booker. His name means "flying through the Universe"; based on his book “Shanghai Triad” the film was directed by the famous Zhang Yimou. The work of Bi Feiyu, like the recent Nobel laureate Mo Yan, is often characterized as “hallucinatory realism”; but if Mo Yan was inspired by the books of Gabriel García Márquez, then Bi Feiyu’s stories will more likely remind the Russian reader of the works of Victor Pelevin. Thus, a schoolteacher working part-time at the Florence nightclub ends up in a demonstrative raid by the morality police, broadcast on television throughout the country; the older brother, who has long settled down in the city and enjoys great success with the fair sex, goes off the rails when the younger brother, who came from the village to study, also tries to take women home; and the famous Peking Opera performer, ignominiously expelled from the profession after throwing boiling water at a student and rival, returns to the stage after a twenty-year hiatus to once again perform in the notorious, enchanted play "Escape to the Moon"...
