The mythological and astronomical treatise that has come down to us under the name Hygina was called “Astronomy”. In the manuscripts the name is either absent or found in different versions: de astrologia, de ratione sphaerae, astronomica. The first publishers entitled the treatise “Poetic Astronomy.” The time of its writing dates back to the 2nd century. n. e. Nothing is known about the author except his name; In all likelihood, he also owned the work Fabulae - a brief summary of myths (also published in the “Ancient Library”) “Astronomy” is not of a purely scientific nature, the presentation of various variants of stellar myths clearly prevails over the astronomical topic itself, and some variants are found only in Hyginus's presentation. The treatise had a great influence on subsequent generations of scientists and writers, was repeatedly commented on and translated into all languages. The translation into Russian of Gigin's work, undertaken for the first time, will become a notable event for all those interested in ancient science and culture. Contents: L.V.
