The book of the Roman mythographer Hyginus, republished in Russian, is one of the few surviving attempts by ancient scientists to fully and systematically present Greek myths. Hyginus's book, written in Latin, is a translation and adaptation of the work of an unknown Greek polymath who worked in the Antonine Age, during the era of the revival of Greek culture and education. “It is a true pleasure to wander among these fabulous images, into which the poetic spirit has breathed life; you need to read the plots in a row, one after another, in order to feel all the blessed fullness of Greek fantasy,” Friedrich Schiller wrote to Johann Wolfgang Goethe about Hyginus’s “Myths.” The publication is accompanied by detailed comments and a detailed preface. Intended for all those interested in ancient mythology and culture. Contents: About the history of the book Introduction. GenealogiesMajor heroic myths; “epic cycle” (1-128) Myths about the gods; other heroic myths (129-185) Thematically united myths (186-220) Catalogs (221-277) Extracts of Dositheus Magister from the Greek translation of Hyginus
