The book by Archpriest Imrich Beleykayich, a professor at the University of Presov (Slovakia), sets out the Orthodox theologian’s view of the newest Catholic Catechism, compiled in 1986-1992 by the best modern theologians of the Roman Catholic Church on the basis of documents adopted at the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) . This Catechism, being essentially a symbolic book of the RCC, is obligatory for all Catholics in the world. Considering the Catholic doctrine set forth in the Catechism, the author points out the main deviations from the true Christian faith allowed by Catholicism in many areas of Christian doctrine, in particular, in the doctrine of the Holy Trinity, the knowledge of God, original sin, the Church, salvation and the afterlife of man. . The Catholic Catechism convinces us that the desire of Roman Catholic theologians is aimed at harmonizing Eastern Orthodox theology with Western, including in those doctrinal issues in which this is absolutely impossible. These and other facts only confirm to us that ecumenical aspirations are not about the search for truth, the truth of Christ, the apostolic truth, the patristic truth. It is forgotten that the Church of Christ is the Apostolic Church and must, in its teaching, be such in any historical era. Christ once and for all showed us the fullness of Divine truth, and the main task of the Church of Christ is to preserve this fullness of truth intact. Add. information: The disadvantage of the book is that the author is clearly influenced by the so-called Parisian theological school and in his reasoning relies on such modernists as Schmemann and Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeev). The author studiously avoids using the word heresy and ignores the great changes that have occurred in Catholicism regarding its relationship to Judaism. And although one cannot agree with all the provisions of the study, this is a very interesting work, especially for those who are interested in comparative theology. Source: < /p>
