Six months have passed since the brutal murder of Archbishop William de Laurent in Davillon. The church appointed a new bishop in the city, but also expressed dissatisfaction with the death of his predecessor. Davillon's economy suffers from the oppression of the church. Many residents turned away from the church, choosing personal ministry or independent churches. And the bishop is angry with the people of Davillon and wants to deal with them. But a supernatural threat stalks the streets at night, reaching out to the lower classes. Because of all this, local church representatives cannot do anything, and the guards have enough to worry about. And then there’s Widdershins, who tried to stay out of trouble by taking over Genevieve’s tavern, but both the church and the guards know her and don’t trust her. Perhaps she and her acquaintances from the thieves guild will play a role in the bishop’s plans, although not of their own free will.
