In 1907, immediately after escaping from exile, Leon Trotsky, under the pseudonym “N. Trotsky" writes the book "There and Back Again", which was published the same year by the Rosehip publishing house. While on the run, expecting a chase every minute and entrusting his life and freedom to the heavily drinking coachman Nikifor, Trotsky becomes an ethnographer-traveler against his will - he travels through sparsely populated areas in the cold season, participates in deer catching, spends the night by the fire, and writes notes about the life of Siberian peoples. The reader is faced with not only the political Trotsky, but this is why the book, which has not been reprinted for almost a hundred years, is valuable.
