The materials that make up the contents of this volume are articles written by L. D. Trotsky in 1912 and 1913, while he was in the Balkans, as a correspondent for a number of Russian newspapers. The exception is the articles included in the first section of the book, relating to the period 1908 - 1912. The first part of this section gives a general idea of the Balkan question. The articles included in the second part are dedicated to the Congress of Balkan Social Democracy and give an idea of the socialist movement of the Balkan proletariat. The entire first section can be considered as a general introduction to all subsequent presentation. The second section includes articles on the war. Particular emphasis is placed on materials related to Serbia and Bulgaria. Materials related to the latter, in turn, are divided by us into two groups: one group covers Bulgaria’s participation in the first Balkan War - with its allies against Turkey; another group is devoted to Bulgaria's participation in the second Balkan War - with its former allies. The third section of the book is devoted to post-war Romania. Unfortunately, the reasons that caused the Second Balkan War are not sufficiently covered by the author. This is explained by the fact that during this period of time Comrade. Trotsky was no longer in the Balkans. This gap, by the way, is attempted to be filled by an introductory article from the editors.
