The novel takes place in a small British village called Midwich. It was the most ordinary village, hundreds and thousands of them, nothing happened there for centuries, but one day everything changed. After one autumn day strangely disappeared from the life of Midwich (everyone in the village and nearby simply slept through that day), all the women capable of having children found themselves pregnant. At first, the children born seemed to be no different from ordinary children, except for their golden eyes, but it soon became clear that, firstly, they develop approximately twice as fast as expected, and secondly, they are very strong telepaths and are capable of literally control the actions of other people.
