The new collection of stories by the famous Serbian film director, musician and writer Emir Kusturica, “One Hundred Troubles,” has become a sensation of the literary season in Europe. It seems that Kusturica resurrects in prose the magical atmosphere of his films such as “Dad on a Business Trip”, “Life is a Miracle”, “Black Cat, White Cat”. The fabric of life with its foundations and traditions, family rituals is torn under the pressure of political circumstances, through the holes flash snakes drinking milk, sheep exploding in a minefield, or flying lovers (“does flying mean falling?”). The absurd, comic, burlesque, and sometimes tragic situations in which the heroes of the short stories find themselves reflect the author’s explosive fantasy, thoughts about the fate of his homeland, about how youth encounters the cruel world of adults and the moment comes when childhood is left far behind.< /p>
