The current reader was able to become acquainted with the work of Evgeniy Nikolaevich Chirikov (1864-1932), “a writer of the Chekhov type,” as his contemporaries assessed him, only recently. The name of the artist, who did not accept October 1917 and was forced to emigrate, was kept silent during Soviet times, and his books were practically not published. In his most ambitious work, the epic chronicle “Father's House,” the author recreates a panorama of the social, political and spiritual life of Russia in the last decades of the 19th and early 20th centuries. This book stands out noticeably among works of similar subjects by other writers of the Russian diaspora. For many years, the writer has been preparing a comprehensive answer to the question of what led Russia to the abyss, why the bodies of innocents were laid as the foundation of its future, and this foundation was cemented by the deception and betrayal of the newly-minted prophets?
