Although this book is similar to a reference book and contains a lot of information about the life and work of Jewish sages of different eras, it is still intended for reading and not just for reference. The small team that worked on it wanted, first and foremost, to convey the spirit and splendor of life according to the Torah, which are manifested in their most perfect form in the biographies of great Jews.
The authors did not set out to convey all the information about them or even most of them, but instead provided the articles with examples from life, dialogues, and memories of students and contemporaries. And for the same reason, the list of persons presented in the book was significantly limited, and the authors ask those readers who feel that we have ignored famous and respected rabbis to keep this circumstance in mind. Both photographs and other visual material serve the same purpose - to recreate the atmosphere of life of Jewish communities and their leaders.
