Washington Irving, nicknamed the “father of American literature,” was the first outstanding master of mystical storytelling in US history. The book contains Irving’s wonderful “Mystery Stories” - a collection of incredible stories from the life of Europeans who moved to the lands of the New World, as well as two of his best legends - “On the Rose of the Alhambra” and “On the Moor’s Inheritance”. Irving’s work successfully embodied a combination of fantastic and realistic principles, soft transitions from the magical world to the world of everyday life. Many of his works, decorated with majestic descriptions of nature and unusual characteristics of the heroes, reinterpret already known ancient and medieval plots, introducing novelty and mystery into them.
