The monograph by E. N. Anikeeva provides a comparative examination of the foundations of Indian theism, mainly in the Vedic-Brahmanistic and Hindu traditions. Indian philosophy and the metaphysics of Indian religions are analyzed in the light of philosophical and religious categories: pantheism, panentheism, theism. The work identifies the boundaries of the application of these categories to Indian religiosity as polytheistic in the course of its comparison with monotheistic religiosity (Christianity). A position is formulated on the impersonal pan(en)theistic basis of Indian religions as opposed to the absolute theistic foundation of monotheism. Indian theism - ishvara-vada - is built on a relative-personal paradigm, or an attributive-functional concept of personality, as opposed to the substantial concept of personality in Christianity.
