The story “Blood” (full title Blood, Treyf blut) talks about a woman, Risha, who manages the estate of her elderly husband Falik. She hires the butcher Reuven to slaughter cattle, and this leads her to be unfaithful to her husband. So Singer leads the reader to the idea that where the blood of animals is shed, there is fornication. Most of Singer's novels and stories have main characters either vegetarians, or people who become vegetarians as they reflect on the Holocaust, which is quite consistent with the above opinion of J.
