A parody and at the same time a philosophical work, caustically written, replete with absurd situations, an impartial and frankly funny book. Raymond Queneau (1903–1976) is one of the recognized classics of the 20th century, an outstanding French writer, poet, screenwriter, translator, mathematician and artist, participant of the surrealist movement, one of the founders of ULIPO (Workshop of Potential Literature or Management of Literary Potency), Transcendental Satrap of the Pataphysical College, director of the "Encyclopedia of the Pleiades", member of the Goncourt Academy.
