The work of Lama E.Kh. Galshiev (1855-1915) is an outstanding monument of pre-revolutionary Buryat literature. He spent over ten years in Tibet studying Buddhism. In terms of genre, “Mirror” belongs to subhashita, a traditional type of Indian literature: short sayings, presented in an artistic frame and sparkling with originality of thoughts and images. The connection of “Mirror” with Buryat reality, its originality is manifested, along with its content, in the system of evidence. The second couplet is proof of the first. This work is widely known among the Khorin Buryats. The book has “notes to the Tibetan translation”, a biography of the translator Ts.A. Dugar-Nimaev (1929-1992), colorful illustrations by the artist B. Dorzhiev. The book is in two languages - Russian and Buryat.
