“Garland of Jatakas” (“Jatakamala”) is a collection of Buddhist stories (jatakas), created around the 4th century. famous ancient Indian poet Arya Shura. Jatakas are literary adaptations of folk tales and legends about the deeds of the Buddha performed by him in his many rebirths in the guise of various people, animals and gods. Entertaining stories serve as a backdrop for numerous digressions and teachings in the spirit of Buddhist ethics. The translation, carried out by the famous Indologist Academician A.P. Barannikov, was completed after his death by the prominent Sanskrit scholar O.F. Volkova and provided with her notes. The publication publishes Tibetan thangka icons illustrating the work of Arya Shura, and an article about them by T.V. Sergeeva. CONTENTS: O.F. Volkova.
