The book is the first publication in Russian of materials from a US military tribunal against individuals involved in lethal experiments and massacres of civilians, prisoners of war, and concentration camp prisoners during World War II. The book contains a large amount of factual material: documents, interrogation reports, the prosecution's arguments, the verdict and appeal materials. In addition to issues of responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity, the book touches on important aspects of international law, including the possibility of humanitarian intervention. In the pages of this book you will see doctors and victims standing face to face, doctors who, instead of lending a helping hand helpless people, their lives were mercilessly cut short to please, often pseudoscientific experiments. However, this trial and an almost similar trial that was carried out on the other side of the Earth, the Khabarovsk trial of 1949 in the Soviet Union against Japanese criminal doctors who committed similar crimes during the occupation of China in the notorious “Unit 731” should serve as a formidable reminder to all those who are ready to put high the medical profession to serve criminal purposes. The author hopes that this work, which is the first translation into Russian of the materials of this trial, will attract the attention of wide circles of society to the absolute need to publish in Russian all the materials of the International Military Tribunal over the main war criminals, as well as the most important trials over the military criminals. From the author of the translation:After the defeat of Germany in World War II, the victorious powers, having assumed supreme power, brought the main war criminals to trial in the International Military Tribunal. However, the scale of the crimes of the Third Reich was so enormous that the need for further prosecution of those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity was absolutely obvious. Guided by their powers in the occupation zones of Germany, all allied countries carried out independent criminal prosecutions of war criminals. The trials of concentration camp employees, participants in the “euthanasia” program and other persons involved in the large-scale extermination of people were widespread. Among the judicial data proceedings, we should especially highlight the so-called subsequent Nuremberg trials, which were carried out by the United States against high-ranking officials of Nazi Germany “second echelon” including doctors, lawyers, industrialists, SS employees and generals of the German army. The first among trials of this kind was the “Medical Case” in 1946-1947, in which the leaders of German medicine and those who carried out criminal experiments on people were put on trial. The author hopes that this work, which is the first translation into Russian of the materials of this trial, will attract the attention of wide circles of society to the absolute need to publish in Russian all the materials of the International Military Tribunal over the main war criminals, as well as the most important judicial proceedings against war criminals.
