Konstantin Balmont (1867–1942) is a poet of “fleetingness,” a moment, who burst into Russian poetry like a meteor, one of the most prominent representatives of the older generation of symbolists and the Silver Age. The “sunny” poems, the “Mozartian” beginning of K. Balmont’s poetry were so popular with his contemporaries that beginning poets of that time often began by imitating the poet, just as Balmont himself once began by imitating Nekrasov. “Whoever cherishes Russian poetry will forever cherish the melodious name of Balmont,” Georgy Adamovich said about the poet. The book contains not only the most famous, but also little-known poems of the poet.
