The work of the writer and historian Daniil Lukich Mordovtsev (1830–1905) is extensive and varied. His numerous historical works, both fiction and documentary, have always been perceived with great interest by the modern reader, have been repeatedly republished and translated into many languages. From the rich heritage of the writer, this collection includes two novels: “Mr. Veliky Novgorod,” which describes the tragic events the time when Muscovite Rus' destroys the economic prosperity and independence of Novgorod, as well as “The Sovereign Carpenter,” a fascinating story about the time of Peter the Great.
