Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin (1799–1837) is a great poet, playwright and prose writer. His immense creative heritage made an invaluable contribution to the development of world literature and culture. However, it is believed that it was in poetry that Pushkin’s genius, values and ideals of the poet were most clearly reflected. Pushkin is often called the “sun of Russian poetry”: thanks to his work, Russian poetry was enriched and reached a new level. Critic Vissarion Grigorievich Belinsky wrote: “Pushkin was called to be the first poet-artist of Rus', to give it poetry as art, as art.” The collection includes the main poetic works of Alexander Pushkin, the study of which is included in the compulsory school curriculum. These are civil and love lyrics, poems (“Prisoner of the Caucasus”, “Bakhchisarai Fountain”, “Bronze Horseman” and others) and a cycle of plays “Little Tragedies”.
