John Gowdy is the pseudonym of the American writer Morton Freedgood (1913–2006), author of many bestsellers. The thriller "Dangerous Passengers on Train 123" (Taking of Pelham One Two Three) has been filmed several times.

Сюжет про захоплення поїзда в нью-йоркському метро розкриває не лише злочинний план чотирьох бандитів, але й соціальні проблеми, які існували в Нью-Йорку в 1973 році. Читач занурюється у світ безробіття, расових конфліктів та небезпеки, які панують на вулицях міста. Персонажі прописані дуже детально, і кожен з них має свою мотивацію, що робить їх реалістичними та зрозумілими. Особливо вражає, як автор поєднує елементи трилера з соціальною критикою, що робить книгу не лише захоплюючою, а й глибокою.
