Against the backdrop of global destructive processes, the difficult fate of an ordinary Soviet person, an engineer, who was recklessly involved in the perestroika processes, is unfolding. The novel accurately and soulfully conveys the atmosphere of this period, describing the entrepreneur's tossing and turning, ups and downs, love affairs, doubts, his desperate attempt to maintain honor and dignity in an unprincipled and cruel world. He is forced to enter into an unequal battle with the system - both local and Moscow bureaucrats, travel halfway across the country and foreign countries, survive mafia raids and purges by “cleaners”...
