Among the creations of St. Gregory Palamas, a special place is occupied by his “Chapters” (“One hundred and fifty chapters devoted to questions of natural science, theology, moral and related to spiritual work, as well as intended for cleansing from the Barlaamite destruction”). It is generally accepted that in the “Chapters” of St. Gregory quite systematically sets out the very essence of his theological views. And indeed, here in a concise and rich form the essential features of the doctrine of the Holy Trinity (including the difference between the essence and “energies” in God), soteriology, the doctrine of man and Palamas’ cosmology are presented. In general, we can say that the “Chapters” are one of the most mature creations of St. Gregory Palamas, in no way inferior to his famous “Triads”, and in a number of points even surpassing them. The publishers hope that the publication of translations of the saint offered to the reader will arouse the interest of theologians, religious scholars, philosophers, philologists, students of religious and secular educational institutions, as well as all those interested in the heritage of patristic thought.
