The debut prose work of Denis Grachev, at the time of writing the story the author was 15 years old. A dystopia about the underground world of the future with a maximalist destruction of existence in the finale. The story was published in the Trans-Ural regional newspaper “Young Leninist” (later “Subbotnyaya Gazeta”) in 1989. Within the boundaries of Kurgan there was a settlement called Kopay, actually a region of dugouts - people lived in dwellings literally dug into the ground. There were rats in Kopai, which often bit people. It was these realities that could have prompted Grachev to create his first story.
