Khodasevich died in 1939, and this circumstance hindered his popularity. The war, then the long development of peaceful life, led to the fact that until the mid-1950s only N.N. Berberova wrote about him, and even then publications were sporadic. This especially applies, of course, to the USSR, where the poet’s name was almost completely banned, and only in the first half of the 1960s could an attentive reader find him in purely scientific publications. Of course, they remembered his early books, some things were being circulated in samizdat, underground work was going on on textual criticism, biography, and poetics of Khodasevich, but this was clearly not enough. A true philological breakthrough was the appearance of the first volume of collected works, prepared by J. Malmstad and R. Hughes (1983).
