Werewolves have long fascinated and horrified the human imagination. But besides the creatures of folklore and fantasy, there were also real “werewolves” like the monstrous lycanthrope serial killers of the second half of the 16th century. Gilles Garnier and Peter Stump (Stubbe). The book includes the original document on the condemnation of Garnier (1574), the rare pamphlet “True News, describing the terrifying life and death of a certain Peter Stubbe” (1590), translated into Russian for the first time, as well as a story partially based on these cases by the modern American writer D.E. . Reich "The Werewolves of Anspach". The publication concludes with the story of the French writing duo E. Erckman and A. Chatrian “Huge the Wolf” (1859).
