Nikolai Berdyaev is one of the deepest Russian thinkers of the first half of the twentieth century. Berdyaev’s ideas developed in the field of Christian culture, but his early works intricately weave echoes of his passion for Marxism. The favorite themes of Berdyaev’s philosophy, which served as the impetus for the development of his unique personalistic metaphysics, are freedom and creativity. The reader will become acquainted with Berdyaev’s early work “Philosophy of Freedom”, which has partly visionary content, as well as his works “The Origins and Meaning of Russian Communism” and “Christianity and the Class Struggle.”
