The book includes two novels by Claude Prosper Joliot Crebillon fils (1707-1777), the author of a large number of works that enjoyed scandalous popularity and simply great reader success in the 18th century. Depicting French secular society, frankly and boldly depicting its moral decline, the loss of ideals, the pursuit of the most sophisticated pleasures, in the first novel (1734) the writer took advantage of the then fashionable Orientalism and described the amusing love failures of a prince from some enchanted kingdom. In the second novel (1742), the debunking of the noble "libertinage" reaches particular sharpness and strength. Although here, too, Crebillon inventively and wittily dresses representatives of secular society in pseudo-oriental clothes. CONTENTS: The slotted spoon, or Tanzai and Neadarne.
