Emily Dickinson (1831–1886) was born in Amherst (Massachusetts) and lived a short and unnoticeable life there. Having written about two thousand poems and a great many letters, she remained unnoticed and unrecognized by her contemporaries. Only the 20th century was able to recognize a brilliant poet in her, but there is still no one to compare her with. Vera Markova began translating E. Dickinson’s poems into Russian. Since then, many translators have turned to them. Translations by Tatiana Stamova are published as a separate book for the first time.
