DICKINSON, Emily Elizabeth (10.XII.1830, Amherst - 15.V.1886, ibid.) - Amer. poetess. Graduated from wives. college. From 1854 she lived in voluntary seclusion in Amherst. Tragic. love left its mark on her work. Wrote ok. 2000 short poems, of which only three or four were published during her lifetime. She bequeathed the destruction of her archive, but in 1890 the 1st book was published. poems by D. She wrote on the “eternal” themes of life and death, love and nature, combining the Puritans. religious mysticism with anti-Godism. D.'s lyrics are characterized by sophisticated psychologism and metaphor. Disregarding tradition. poetic norms, D. often ignores even grammar, creates new rhythms, and replaces rhyme with assonance. Interest in her work and epistolary heritage arose in the 1910-20s.
